Hi, I'm Claire!
I'm an oil painter, and I love to paint my favorite foods and drinks.
(Here's the longer version.) When I was in elementary school, I loved to draw — in fifth grade, my “teach your classmates a new skill” project was a tutorial on how to draw a parrot. Throughout middle and high school, I took art as an elective and always enjoyed it. However, when it came to planning my career, I felt like I had to default to something that was considered more stable — like engineering.
I studied computer science in college and took on several full-time positions at large tech companies. After a particularly bad layoff, the first thing I did after the video chat ended was drive to an art supplies store. I painted for the first time in seven years (the subject was my Wingstop order from that evening). I constantly thought about how this “path” that I thought was the stable option turned out to be so tumultuous. It got me thinking: why couldn't I just also make art?
Now, I view oil painting as a discipline that I want to improve on daily. I hope you can see that in each of my paintings.
